Winter League. Eight teams have qualified for the playoffs—an incredible achievement! A huge thank you to Paola, Matt, and all team captains for managing subs and logistics. Despite the wet and windy weather, participation in team coaching sessions has remained strong, and the dedication of our players has certainly contributed to this success.
The box leagues have wrapped up, with the finals night on Friday, February 28th—well done to everyone who took part! Special thanks to Nando for organizing the event. Meanwhile, the Road to Glasnevin is nearing its final rounds, so please arrange your matches soon. Entry is now open for the Spring Club Championships, starting in April. This is a great opportunity to compete, meet fellow members, and enjoy the game—whether you’re an experienced player or new to the club. For more details or to register, contact Eoin at 089 205 5049.

The Winter League was a great success, with strong results and commitment from our Ladies teams. Four teams made it to the first round of the playoffs, and three teams earned promotions: GLTC 2 to Class 3, GLTC 3 to Class 4, and GLTC 6 to Class 6. The progress over the last three years has been incredible, showing a huge improvement in the club’s standard of tennis. Regular coaching, competitive matches, and team selections have all played a big role in this achievement.
The Ladies committee recently reviewed and updated the ladder and challenge rules based on feedback from a survey. The revised rules have been shared in the Ladies Group—contact Paola (085 274 4683) if you’d like to be added for updates. Looking ahead to the Summer League, we are gathering interest to decide how many teams to enter. The club deadline is March 18th, and with growing participation, we may be able to add a new Class 8 team this year.

We entered eight teams for the 2025 Winter League campaign, four of which made the playoffs – GLTC1, 2, 5 & 7. Of these GLTC 2 & 5 have been promoted to a higher class. GLTC 1 will play their quarter final on 9th March but, to be promoted, they will need to make the final. GLTC 7 lost their playoff match for promotion to Class 7. Well done to all those who made the playoffs this year, and hard luck to GLTC6 who were relegated. GLTC 3, 4 and 8 maintained their class for next year. This year we had the most teams and players that the club has ever entered for Winter League and I’d like to say well done to everyone involved. Many thanks to Eoin, Nando & Sophie for their coaching and emotional support throughout the campaign!

We will need help to run this over the weekend.
Umpires may be needed for the matches
Help out in the kitchen to make sandwiches tea etc. We are obliged to provide refreshments for the kids waiting around to play.
If anyone could drop down cakes for over the weekend it would be appreciated!
Contact Ciara 0868556299 if you can help out.
DLTC League campaigns
The club competes annually in all Dublin Lawn Tennis Council leagues. There are slight differences in the makeup of the teams for the different leagues:
-
Each team consists of 3 doubles pairings. Matches are on Sunday mornings for the men’s teams and afternoons for ladies, usually beginning at the end of January.
-
Each team consists of 7 players - two doubles pairings and 3 singles. Matches take place for ladies on Mon/Tues/Wed evenings and Men on Friday evenings/Saturday afternoons in early May-June.
-
Three mixed pairings with matches taking place on Friday evenings in July. Players must be age 18 by 31st December in the preceding year.
-
Three double pairings over age 35. Men’s teams play Sunday mornings and the ladies on Sunday afternoons from early September.
-
Four players on each team. Each fixture is two singles matches and one doubles. Team captains draw lots on the night and this dictates who plays singles or doubles that evening. Matches take place on Tues/Wed evenings end of September/ October.
