Glasnevin Lawn Tennis Club And The Community

Glasnevin Lawn Tennis Club has a long history of being an integral part of its community and we have adopted our community role into our Mission Statement.

Being a club run by volunteers, we are able to offer affordable membership rates that provide excellent value; we also offer significant discounts for family memberships. In addition to tennis, there is a Montessori/creche that operates in the mornings and an afterschool facility. A local bridge club makes use of our facilities weekly and other local organisations use our hall for activities such as ballet, dance and pilates. We also make a social contribution - in the 1950’s and 60’s the ‘Nevin dances were renowned as a social outlet across Dublin and that positive fun factor still permeates through all of our social functions.

We take particular pride in some of the events that benefit charities and demonstrate our community commitment; 3 such highlights of 2022 were:

TENNIS MARATHON FOR UKRAINE

Fundraising tennis marathon for Ukrainian refugees in April, which raised €4,700 for the Irish Red Cross. To supplement our efforts, the club and its members also provided complimentary membership, coaching, tennis attire and equipment for some Ukrainian families, helping them integrate at a very distressing time.

FUNDRAISING WEEKEND FOR ST FRANCIS HOSPICE

Fundraising weekend for St Francis Hospice, which was organised by a group of club members in honour of our former President and much-loved member, Mick Finglas. This was a truly remarkable and positive event, with a tremendous community spirit throughout the tennis marathon which continued long into the night! A total of over €8,000 was raised and gratefully received by the hospice, who have touched many of our hearts and undertake phenomenal work.

ST VINCENT DEPAUL OLD FOLKS PARTY

Our annual Old Folks party, run in conjunction with a local chapter of the St Vincent DePaul – one of the hottest tickets in town we believe - where some of our senior citizens from across Dublin’s northside are treated to a full meal, dancing and entertainment just prior to Christmas.

We strongly recommend that members not just contribute to, but also participate (or even organise) such events. The support from club members is very rewarding.
